Saghro masife 6 days trek The 6-Day Trek Itinerary
A typical 6-day trek through the Saghro Massif includes a combination of long, steady hikes and opportunities to enjoy the local culture, making it a perfect balance between physical activity and cultural exploration. Here’s an overview of what a 6-day itinerary might look like:
Arrive in Marrakech or Ouarzazate, where you’ll be transferred to the village of N’Kob, a typical starting point for the Saghro trek. Depending on your time of arrival, you may spend the night in a local guesthouse, allowing you to adjust to the region’s time zone and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Your first full day on the trail starts with a hike from N’Kob, passing through lush valleys and Berber villages. You’ll trek through dry riverbeds, small settlements, and the occasional oasis, before reaching the village of Tazazert, known for its traditional mud-brick houses and quiet atmosphere.
On the third day, you’ll embark on a longer hike through narrow gorges and rocky paths. The terrain becomes more rugged, and the views open up to vast, uninhabited landscapes. Eventually, you’ll reach Ait Saïd, a remote village surrounded by dramatic cliffs and isolated from the outside world. The night will be spent camping or in local homestays, where you can experience traditional Berber hospitality.
The fourth day brings a challenging yet rewarding hike across the Tagdilt Plateau. The trek becomes more strenuous as you climb higher into the massif’s rugged mountains. The geological formations are fascinating, with volcanic rocks and strange-shaped peaks providing ample photo opportunities. The evening will be spent camping under the stars, a unique experience in this remote region.
The fifth day features a dramatic descent into the valley below, followed by a journey toward the village of Igli. This day offers the perfect chance to reflect on your journey as you pass through expansive desert terrain and observe the varied plant and animal life that thrives in this harsh environment. Igli is a small Berber settlement, and you’ll be able to visit the village to learn about its traditions and history.
On the final day of the trek, you’ll head towards the stunning Toudra Gorge, a famous site known for its towering cliffs that rise dramatically from the valley floor. After a well-deserved break at the gorge, you’ll be transferred back to Ouarzazate or Marrakech, marking the end of your trek.
